The Course

The art of singing has been taught for generations without the benefit of evidence-based science to underpin it. Due to recent developments in spectrographic software, ultrasound, fibre optic and endoscopic technology, it has become possible to view the voice and build a science-based understanding of how it works. This greater understanding forms the basis of the book and, consequently, the multi-disciplinary approach that we will be using on the course.

Led by Prof. Janice Chapman, and a world-leading team of multi-disciplinary experts, CVT will present a 5 day intensive course which includes Breathing and Support, Remedial use of Accent Method Breathing for Singers, Postural Alignment, Vocal Anatomy and Physiology, Manual Therapy, Phonation, Resonance, Articulation, Mind-skills for Performers and, Artistry and Performance. Each day will consist of body/voice warm-ups, lectures, small practice groups, masterclasses and interactive discussion sessions. Visiting voice and performance professionals will also be joining us throughout the week.

This year, we have also expanded the scope of the course and are thrilled to be able to offer two separate strands for participants to choose from: the Soloists’ Strand and the Pedagogy Strand. Each individual applicant can choose which focus they would prefer over the week.

Another addition this year is the chance for participants to sign up and receive one-to-one tuition and coaching with various members of the Classical Voice Training team. This will be offered on a strictly first-come-first-served basis after the application process has been completed.

This course is suitable for singers (both solo and choral), singing teachers, vocal coaches, choral directors and voice professionals.

For Solo Singers

A tailor-made timetable for the Soloist.  This will include: physical and vocal warmups, plenary lectures, practice, masterclasses, interactive discuss sessions, an opportunity for one to one coaching and a copy of the Classical Voice Training Workbook.

For Teachers & Pedagogues

A course specifically designed for the voice professional, singing teacher or coach.  This will include: physical and vocal warmups, plenary lectures, practice groups, masterclasses, interactive discuss sessions, an opportunity for one to one coaching and a copy of the Classical Voice Training Workbook.
